Chlorhexidine Gluconate is a chemical antiseptic that can combat both gram positive and gram negative microbes. It is often used as an ingredient in mouthwash, aiming at killing dental plaque and other bacteria present in the mouth. It is also used for general skin cleansing and pre-operative skin preparation. Due to its ability to reduce the acne bacteria population is may be more effective than benzoyl peroxide. Chlorhexidine gluconate has been used as a cleanser, while benzoyl peroxide is used in topical cream gels, and as such it can only be used on the skin for a short period of time while you wash. It can also eliminate oil on the skin, unclog pores or eliminate blackheads.
